World Mission Sunday
The Church marks World Mission Sunday this weekend. Along with Catholics throughout the world, we are called to offer our prayers and generous financial support through the World Mission Collection, organised by the Pontifical Mission Society for the Propagation of the Faith, to further the mission of Jesus.

Your gift on World Mission Sunday helps:
•People in remote villages, towns and cities through the witness and work of missionaries and local priests
•Children, elders, refugees, the sick and orphans through the service of Religious Sisters and Brothers
•To bring the Gospel to the poorest of our human family
•Catechists proclaim the message of hope and peace that only Christ can give

Do offer prayer for the work of the Church in the missions today in the Pacific Islands, Latin America, Africa and Asia.

All collections at Masses this weekend will go towards this cause.

Read Pope Francis’ message here.

History of the Catholic Church in Singapore

This course seeks to create an awareness of the history of the Catholic Church in Singapore. It intends to help participants discover more about our Church history here, and it is also an invitation to relive our Catholic heritage through the eyes and experience of a missionary priest living here in Singapore.

The speaker is missionary priest Fr Rene Nicolas, MEP, who co-wrote the book “Going forth: The Catholic Church in Singapore 1819-2004” (Read more in this report)

A few of the topics that this course may delve into include:

  • How and when the Catholic faith reached the shores of Southeast Asia?
  • What roles did the Catholic Church play in the building of Singapore as a nation?
  • Which Apostle can we trace our Singapore Catholic heritage to?
  • Which was the first Catholic Church to be built in Singapore?
  • Do we have any local martyrs of the faith?

The course is primarily for catechists, but those who are not serving in the catechetical ministries are also welcome to attend. Register online before 18 October 2017 for the organisers in administrative needs.

Please feel free to contact the Office for Catechesis at formation@catechesis.org.sg should you need further clarification or have any other queries.

* NOTE: There is a possibility that sessions may be postponed due to the speaker’s health. We will send out an email notification to registered participants regarding this. Participants are urged to check their emails on the morning of the session.

Feast Day Celebrations
Our parish priest and the organising committee of our Feast Day celebration would like to thank Archbishop William Goh, the priests who took part in our triduum, healing service and celebrations, and to all parishioners and friends who made it a very joyous occasion.

Fr John Bosco: “Thanks go out to the wardens — especially for their patience and help, given the unpredictable weather and vehicles dropping off passengers  the communion ministers, the choirs, the sacristan, the florist and her friends, the carnival committee, in particular the pastoral council chairman, whose hair turned grey overnight.

And also, not forgetting some of our future priests— our altar servers. There are potential candidates there, I won’t mention their names so as not to put pressure on them. Pray for them, and also that the number of candidates would increase. Thanks, too, to the flower boys and girls, the statue bearers, and to all of you who have made this a truly wonderful celebration.

A big, big thank-you to Archbishop. Every year thus far, he has made it a point to come here, but I think, I don’t know, we pray that he will come back next year. This weekend was very, very busy for His Grace, because there were six celebrations, so he had to forego one or two to come here. There were feast day celebrations at the parishes of St Michael, St Vincent de Paul, Our Lady Star of the Sea, St Francis of Assisi and ours, as well as Migrant Sunday. Thank you for making time for us, Your Grace.”

Check out the photos and video.
